Alfred A. Brinkmann, age 88, of Oshkosh, died at his home March 21, 2004 after a short illness. He was born on July 29, 1915 to John and Wilhelmina (Sebsteadt) Brinkmann in Rozellville, Wisconsin. Al married Mary Lou Meyer on October 23, 1944 in a ceremony at St. Peter Catholic Church Rectory, performed by Reverend Francis McKeough.
After graduation from Marshfield High School, Al worked for Roe Nurseries in Oshkosh until enlisting in the U.S. Navy in December of 1941. After his discharge from the navy, Al continued working for Roe Nurseries, purchasing the business in 1952. He retired in 1976 after selling the nursery to Gary Heinzl.
Al is survived by his loving wife of 59 years: Mary Lou Brinkmann of Oshkosh; one brother and sister-in-law: John and Helen Brinkmann of Seabrook, Texas; a sister-in-law: Agnes Brinkmann of Marshfield; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Bill and Bettijean Meyer of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; very special friends: Gary and Darlene Heinzl and their children, Steven and Theresa; nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. Al was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and four brothers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 27, 2004 at 2:30 p.m. in Saint Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, 830 South Westhaven Drive, with Reverend Daniel Felton officiating. Family and friends may call on Saturday from 1:00 until 2:30 p.m. at the church. The Brinkmann family request that memorials in Al's memory be made to Saint Raphael Catholic Church.
