Anna Matsche, age 94, of Oshkosh, died Tuesday morning, May 13, 2014, at Azura Memory Care of Oshkosh. Born on September 27, 1919, in Birnamwood, Wisconsin, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Troiber) Matsche, Anna was employed at Wisconsin Telephone Company first as an operator and later as a customer service representative.
She was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Parish, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ladies Altar Society, and Telephone Pioneers of America. Anna enjoyed card playing, painting, bowling, dartball, knitting baby items, and gardening. She was well-known for her beautiful cake decorating and being the family hairstylist, especially to her nieces and nephews.
Survivors include her sister, Mary Matsche of Oshkosh; a brother-in-law, Richard (Dolores) Hunt of Oshkosh; a special aunt, Loretta Matsche; nieces and nephews, Carolyn Diley, Mary Ellen Mauritz, Elizabeth (Richard) Winton, Stephen (Cindy) Hunt, Joseph Hunt, Mary Barbara Rumlow, and Rusty Lenz; several grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. Anna was preceded in death by three sisters, Loretta Matsche, Alice Hunt, and Doris Lenz; and a brother-in-law, Russell Lenz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 22, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Jude the Apostle Parish (Sacred Heart Catholic Church), 519 Knapp Street, with Reverend Mathew Simonar officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. A time of visiting and sharing of memories will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Seefeld Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street, where a Prayer Service/Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. A gathering time from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, prior to the service, will also be held at church.
