Arnold E. Hielsberg, age 75, of Oshkosh, died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, June 16, 2005. He was born on June 21, 1929 in Oshkosh a son of the late Elmer and Alma (Arndt) Hielsberg.
He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Arnie married the former Melanie Steffanus on October 9, 1954 in Oshkosh. The couple celebrated 50 years of marriage in October of 2004. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church.He was employed by the Kimberly-Clark Corporation, Lake-View Mill in Neenah for 42 years, retiring in May of 1989. Arnie served as vice president of the UPIU Local #482. He was an avid sports enthusiast, playing football, baseball, softball, bowling and golf. He continued his bowling and golf leagues and took great pride in his five grandchildren's school achievements and loved supporting their sporting activities until the day he died. Arnie took great pride also in his yard and flowerbeds, especially his roses. He enjoyed an active social life, spending much of his time playing cards and cribbage with friends. He was always ready to help his children and friends with remodeling projects, painting and refinishing of furniture. He loved his former pets that preceded him in death, missing always, his dogs Emmet and Pupper and his cats Lucky, Pumpkin and Cleopatra. Arnie was deeply loved by his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 plus years, Melanie; four children, John (Marsha) Hielsberg of Oshkosh, Sharon (Scott) Roberts of Superior, Colorado, Janice (Steven) Allen of Berlin, Lucy (Steven) Cowling of Neenah; five grandchildren, Zachary and Lucas Allen, Matthew and Stephanie Cowling, Michael Roberts, two step grandchildren, Sara and Lisa Hanagan, a step great-grandchild, Marissa Esser. Also surviving are three brothers, Gordon (Jean), Robert (Sally), Elmer (Judith) Hielsberg; two sisters, Ruth Gerth and Lucille (Richard) Koch. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Arnold will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church, 434 South Park Avenue in Oshkosh, with the Reverend William Van DeKreeke celebrating. A time of visitation and support will be held on Monday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 300 N. Eagle Street. There will be a Parish prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Burial will take place privately with the family at St. Martin's Catholic Cemetery in Ellis, Wisconsin at a later date. A memorial fund is being established in Arnold's name.
