Barbara Jean Bateman, a resident of Parkview Health Center, Oshkosh, WI, died peacefully on Friday, December 28, 2012 after a short battle with renal failure.
Barbara was born to Betty (Hawkins) and Edwin Benson on April 27, 1934 in Minneapolis, MN. After graduating from New Richmond, WI, High School, she entered the US Navy, serving on the USS Bainbridge. Following her military service, she had the opportunity to live in many cities, including: Niagara Falls, NY; Memphis, TN; St Louis, MO; New Orleans, LA; Chicago, IL; Oklahoma City, OK and Fort Worth, Texas. Barbara was both a wife and business woman and volunteered her time with charitable activities.
She is survived by her son, Don (Cindy) Majewski of Tucson, AZ; two grandchildren, Joe Majewski, serving in the US Army in Georgia, and Amanda Majewski of Richmond, VA; two brothers, Jim Benson of Oshkosh and Phoenix, AZ and Jerry (Ana) Benson of Yorktown, VA; a sister, Jane (Greg) Wypiszynski of Oshkosh; several nieces and nephews and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Bateman; her parents, a stepfather, Gordon Wears, Sr.; a stepbrother, Gordon Wears, Jr. and a sister, Marie (Benson) Belisle.
Her family wishes to thank all the staff at Parkview Health Center for the compassionate, loving care they gave Barbara throughout her residence. Cremation has taken place and she will be laid to rest beside her husband Glen, at the Dallas/Ft. Worth Military Cemetery on January 24, 2013, 1:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held in Oshkosh at a later date.
