Bernetta E. Calkins (nee Niebauer), age 80, of Oshkosh, met her Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 9, 2014. She was born in the town of Algoma, Oshkosh on March 30, 1933 the daughter of the late Harold and Elsie (Mueller) Niebauer, Sr. On October 26, 1966 she married James Calkins in Chicago. He preceded her in death in 1992. She had worked for Kings Laundry, Victor Light Candle, Oshkosh Manufacturing, and Morgan Door. Bernetta enjoyed her soap operas, puzzles and playing with her cat, Joy. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile and free spirit.
Bernetta is survived by her children: Jessica Eiler of Oshkosh, Kathleen (Roland) Kessen of Neenah, Johnny (Nancy) Buchanan of Neenah, Ann Calkins of Neenah; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren: former husband, Jack Eiler; brother and sisters: Harold (LaDean) Niebauer, Jr., Luella Owen, and Nancy Schettl. She was preceded in death by her husband James; her parents; and brothers-in-law: Austin Owen and Gerald Schettl.
The funeral service will be at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at ZION LUTHERAN CHURCH, 400 N. Sawyer St., Oshkosh, with Rev. Jeffrey Knoll officiating. Friends will be received at the church on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Park.
