Bertha L. Spears, age 76, of Oshkosh passed away, Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Northpoint Medical and Rehab center. Bertha was born on March 11, 1937, in Mercer to George and Eva Bell (Holmes) Calkins. She married Morley "Mort" Spears on July 15, 1995. Bert was quite active in AA for many years. In her younger years, she had a huge garden and she spent time tending and then canning the vegetables. She also was quite adept at couponing and refunds, keeping track of all the receipts with her file system. She enjoyed quilting and gave everyone quilts. She was quite musical and taught herself to play the guitar, piano and organ. In her later years, she enjoyed working with Mort, together running the office of the Enchanted Forest Campground. She enjoyed going to the casinos all over Wisconsin.
Bertha is survived by her daughters, Pat (John Moore) Henke of Neshkoro, Sue Reinke of Oshkosh and Peggy (Christine Gremminger) Reinke of Campbellsport; step children, Debe (Ron Pyszora of Neenah, Connie (Joe) Seekins of Neenah, Jessica (Jim) Austin of Menasha, Jim (Ann) Spears of Kaukauna, and Todd Spears of Redgranite; five grandchildren, three great grandchildren; 16 step grandchildren; ten step great grandchildren and one step great great grandchild; sisters, June Rockweiller and Joyce Marquardt; brothers, Jack and Bill Calkins; the father of her daughters, Wayne Reinke; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mort; daughter, Sandra Miller; sisters, Loretta Miller, Irene Wright, and Catherine Anderson; brothers, Donald Calkins, George Calkins, Fredrick Calkins, Bordon Calkins and LeRoy Calkins.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 4, 2014, from 12:00 noon until the time of the Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m.
