Burton "Bud" Barthels, age 70, of Oshkosh, died Thursday evening, August 19, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center, with his family at his side. He was born on April 1, 1934 in Oshkosh to Herbert and Lillian (Neitzel) Barthels. Bud married Lorraine Bradley on October 20, 1956 in Oshkosh and she preceded him in death on August 17, 2001.
Bud was the owner/operator of Barthels Sales and Service at the time of his death. He was a member of First English Lutheran Church, Ushers Club, Christian Fellowship, the Van Dyne Lions Club, Nekimi Volunteer Fire Department, and was a supervisor for the township of Nekimi. Bud enjoyed times spent with family and friends, who will greatly miss him.
Survivors include one son: Glen (Julie) Barthels of Oshkosh; one daughter: Jane (Ben) Hughes of Pickett; five grandchildren: John Barthels, Andrew (friend-Jennifer) Barthels, Adam Barthels, Michael Hughes, and Courtney Hughes; one great-granddaughter: Natalie Barthels; one sister: Marion Hemminghaus of Oshkosh; one sister-in-law: Elaine Bradley of Oshkosh; one brother-in-law: Lawrence (Erma) Bradley of Pickett; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. Preceding Bud in death are his wife, parents, one son: Carl Barthels; and one brother: Glen Barthels.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 23, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in First English Lutheran Church, 1013 Minnesota Street, with Reverend Chuck Fluegel officiating. Interment will be in Peace Lutheran Cemetery following the services. Family and friends call on Sunday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 300 North Eagle Street, and on Monday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. A memorial in Bud's memory is being established by his family.
