Byron Ferguson, age 88, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, September 18, 2011, at his home in Oshkosh. Born on August 28, 1923, near Crandon, Wisconsin, the son of Guy and Vesta (Maybee) Ferguson, Byron married Jean Bingen on August 30, 1947. His wife of 63 years passed away on September 17, 2010.
A long-time member of Algoma Boulevard United Methodist Church, Byron served the church in several capacities. After serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Byron was employed by W.T. Grant Department Stores and later by Service-Litho Print in Oshkosh.
Five children survive Byron's passing, Scott (Deborah) Ferguson, Steven (Cheryl Maranto) Ferguson, Susan Ferguson, Sally (Bruce) Schowengerdt, and Sharon (Randy) Shy; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a sister, Lowene Campbell; and a brother, Alden Ferguson. Preceding Byron in death is a sister, Vanita Schmidt.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 26, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. in Algoma Blvd. United Methodist Church, 1174 Algoma Blvd., with Reverend Barry Yarbro officiating. A time of visiting and sharing of memories will be held on Monday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church.
