Carl S. Harrmann, age 87, of Oshkosh, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, June 8, 2005. Born February 7, 1918 in Oshkosh to Carl August and Maude Rosalia (Stille) Harrmann. He was married to Odessa Belle Dollins on August 26, 1944, in Atlanta, Georgia. He was the proud father of and survived by, one son, Carl Stille Harrmann, Jr. of Oshkosh. He is further survived by granddaughters: Kjirsti Harrmann of Brooklyn, New York, and Libby (Mick) Kanyuh of Franklin, Wisconsin; grandson: Carl W. Harrmann of Minnesota; great grandchildren, the daughters of Libby: Cassandra and Charlotte Sluga; and sister-in-law: Oatie Ruth Fleckenstein. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Louis Richard Harrmann; and brother-in-law: Raymond Fleckenstein.
Carl served in the United States 3rd Army during the Second World War. Where he was a member of the Combat Command B unit of he 10th Armored Division, as well as the 101st Airborne Division. His unit was surrounded for two weeks in Bastogne, Belgium during the German Ardennes Offensive, commonly known as the Battle of the Bulge. The work of these units was primarily responsible fro stalling the last German Offensive of the Second World War. For it's work in the battle his unit received the Distinguished Service Citation. Carl was also the recipient of three Bronze Battle Stars.
Carl was an Educator who taught and worked at Universities and many other schools until his return to Oshkosh. He was a life long member of Trinity Episcopal Church. He was also actively involved in Masonic Service; a member of Masonic Lodge #27 of Oshkosh where he served for a time as Worshipful Master, Commander Commander, and in many other ways. Carl returned to Oshkosh to own and operate Battis Brothers Supply Company, which he owned for 30 years. In his free time Carl enjoyed watching sports, especially the Brewers and the Packers.
Funeral Services for Carl will be held at the Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street, on Saturday, June 11, 2005. Masonic Service will begin at 1:30 P.M. with a funeral service, officiated by Father Steven Powers, to follow. A time of visitation and support will be held at the Seefeld Oregon Street Chapel from 11:30 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment will be at Dahlgren Ioof Cemetery, in Dahlgren Illinois. A memorial is being established, by Carl's family, to the American Cancer Society for Prostate Cancer Research.
