Catherine "Kay" Jane White died on October 27th at Aurora Medical Center. in Oshkosh, at 82 years of age. She was born in Dodgeville, Wisconsin on September 1, 1925 to James L. and Irene M. (Harrington) Smith. On June 17, 1947 she was married to Robert W. White at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Ridgeway, Wisconsin by Father Dorn.
Catherine graduated from Platteville State Teacher's College in 1945 with a Bachelor's degree in teaching English and Math. She earned her Master's degree in Math and English Education at UW-Oshkosh. Catherine taught English and Math in Prairie Du Sac and Madison Wisconsin. Her husband Robert also graduated from Platteville State Teacher's College in 1941 and was employed as a teacher. Catherine and her husband have been members Sacred Heart Catholic Church (now called St. Jude the Apostle) in Oshkosh since 1965. She enjoyed golfing, square and round dancing, playing bridge, reading novels and most of all being with her family. She volunteered with the Red Cross and was active in her parish.
Catherine is survived by her husband, Robert; three sons: Richard J. (Judy) White of Alameda, California, David W. (Leigh) White of Appleton, and John R. (Annette) White of Warsaw, Indiana; three granddaughters: Maggie, Elise and Laura; and two grandsons: Matthew and Peter White. Catherine was preceded in death by her son, Captain Lawrence J. White of the U.S. Air Force.
Funeral services with a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, on Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Parish on Knapp Street and 5th Ave., 1025 West 5th Ave, Oshkosh, Father Tom Reynebeau officiating. A time of visitation and sharing of memories will be held on Tuesday from 7:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 300 North Eagle Street, and again at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 until the time of the service. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church or the charity of one's choice in her name.
