Charles H. Cheney passed on at his home on Lake Buttes Des Morts, in the Town of Oshkosh on Saturday afternoon, August 27, 2005. "Chuck" made the transition in a way he would have wanted-doing what he most enjoyed doing-working with his son and grandson. His son, John Cheney, and grandson Christopher were visiting Grandpa while John's wife, Cathy Lankering Cheney and daughter, Meredith, were at their home in a Philadelphia suburb. Chuck's daughter, Beth Ann Cheney, lives in Warwick, NY and will also be with the family.
Chuck met his wife, Joyce Woodend Cheney, while in training with the Aetna Life Insurance Company at their home office in Hartford, Connecticut. They married in 1954 and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past year. After spending some years in Midwestern offices of the Aetna, Chuck and Joyce moved to the New York City area, where Chuck loved his work selling Pension plans and Employee Benefit programs to major US corporations. Chuck delighted in the stimulating and invigorating New York City business atmosphere. Upon retirement, Chuck and Joyce returned to the Oshkosh area where Chuck had grown up, and settled in a lovely spot on Lake Butte Des Morts where their families could visit and enjoy the beautiful Wisconsin summers on the water. Chuck was enthusiastic about helping friends in an area Marina- which kept him close to his favorite past time, boating. He will be dearly missed by his friends and family, but they know that Chuck is continuing on in his eternal life journey with God.
The family will hold a private family service at some point in the near future. In lieu of a public service or flowers, the family asks that gifts be made to the church Chuck so dearly loved and worked for, First Church of Christ, Scientist of Oshkosh, or to the Oshkosh Area Humane Society (OAHS).
