Charlotte Lucille (nee Bigford) Chamberlin, long time resident of Oshkosh, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, October 1, 2005, at Evergreen Retirement Community in her Creekview residence. She was born in Manawa on July 20, 1920, daughter of Roger and Grace (Dick) Bigford.
Char graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1938. She attended Oshkosh State Teacher's College the following year and graduated from Kaehler School of Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota, in 1942. She then worked for Dr. George Shambaugh in Chicago as his surgical nurse. She returned to Oshkosh making it her permanent residence in 1976.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband of 23 years, William H. Chamberlin, in August 1970 and her granddaughter, Leah Marie Reed, in July 1987. Also preceding her in death was her brother, Dr. Walter Bigford, in 1994.
Surviving are her children: Dr. William H. Chamberlin Jr. and wife Kathleen Campbell of Chicago, Lynn Chamberlin (Brown) of Evanston, Illinois and Lori Chamberlin Reed and husband Gerald S. Reed of Murphysboro, Illinois. Charlotte is also survived by her sisters: Alice Bales of Baraboo, Barbara Vergara of Boise, Idaho and grandchildren: Benjamin W. Reed, Roger S. Brown, Amy R. Brown and Kelsey Rose Reed. Charlotte spent her last years at Evergreen Retirement Community and was deeply appreciative for the facility, the supportive staff and administration.
A memorial service will be held at Evergreen Retirement Community on Tuesday, October 4, at 1:30 p.m., the Rev. Carol DiBiasio-Snyder of First Congregational Church officiating. Memorials to the Evergreen Care Assurance Fund are appreciated. Char will rest eternally at the Little Wolf Cemetery in Manawa.
