Clarence Benner, age 89, of Oshkosh, died Wednesday evening, August 3, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center. Born on July 21, 1922, in Oshkosh, to Henry and Katherine Benner, Clarence married Jane M. Koch on October 26, 1940 in Oshkosh. Jane preceded Clarence in death on November 22, 1996.
A WWII Navy Veteran, Clarence served his country aboard the U.S.S. Yorktown CV-5. He later became a machinist and was employed by Rockwell International until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of the American Legion Cook-Fuller Post #70. Clarence was an accomplished golfer, having received many trophies from area golf tournaments.
Survivors include three children, Carol Sandbeck of Oshkosh, Gary Benner of San Diego, California, and Terry (Carrie) Benner of Oshkosh; four grandchildren, Rick (Gail) Sandbeck, Kary Benner, Brittani Benner, and Alyssa Benner; two great-granddaughters, Mindy Sandbeck and Kayla Thomas; three great-great-grandchildren, Justyn, Mya, and Jaydyn; one sister, Helene Dillon of Carson City, Nevada ; and one brother, Londell Benner of Banming, California. Preceding Clarence in death his wife, parents, and three siblings, Sam, Adam, and Pauline.
