Clarence Scott Hodge Jr., age 85, of Oshkosh, died Tuesday morning, June 17, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center. He was born on June 1, 1923 in the village of Wild Rose to Clarence S. and Sarah A. (Lane) Hodge Sr. On September 27, 1951 Scott married Barbara L. Smith in Oshkosh.


Scott was employed by Winnebago County Highway Department as a grader operator until his retirement. He is a member of Wyldewood Baptist Church, an active member of Pickett Steam and Gas Engine Club, a volunteer at Winnebago County Fairgrounds, and a former mechanic for Dahl Ford in Oshkosh. During WWII Scott served in the Merchant Marine aboard the USS Lindaberry. Scott and Barbara enjoyed time spent vacationing in South Dakota.


Left to mourn his passing is his wife, Barbara Hodge of Oshkosh; three daughters, April (Benjamin) Downs of Ripon, Gail (Donald) Wojahn of Larsen, and Peggy Hodge of Oshkosh; eight grandchildren, Tracy Young, Benji Downs, Dan Wojahn, Peter (Kathryn) Downs, Katherine Hodge, Connie Wojahn, Becky (Curtis) Ackley, and Alan Bahr; and six great-grandchildren, Brittany Young, Summer Downs, Parker Downs, Chloe Downs, Evan Downs, and Ryan Ackley. Preceding Scott in death are his parents and two brothers, LeRoy and Harvey Hodge.


Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 20, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 300 North Eagle Street, with Reverend Randall King of Wyldewood Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park. A time of visitation and sharing of memories will be held on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Friday from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
