Obituary

Daniel P. Knowlton, age 89 died at Harbor Haven Nursing Home in Fond du Lac, on Monday, November 12, 2007. He was born in Milwaukee on May 2, 1918 to Harry and Jesse (Peterson) Knowlton. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and graduated from the University of Wisconsin. On January 30, 1943 he married Iris Kaye of Casco, Wisconsin, whom he had met at a record store. They shared a love of classical music throughout their 64 years together. They lived in Appleton for 50 years.

Dan loved traveling. He discovered bicycling at age 50 and took many biking tours of Europe, the United States, and New Zealand. Dan began working for Great Northern Corporation when the business first opened its doors, and retired as the Vice President of Finance. He was an avid reader who enjoyed trains, woodworking, spending time with his grandchildren, and his Winona Court Neighborhood.

Dan will be sadly missed by his wife, Iris; children: MaryLee Knowlton (Mark Sachner), Kristine (Mark) Bradish, David (Kate Lang) Knowlton, and Mark (Sharon) Knowlton; grandchildren: Jessica (Chris), Ellen, Norah, Max, Abby, Sam, Suzanna, Jack, Scott, Sara, and Casey; great-grandchildren, Dominick and Evan. He is further survived by his sisters: Jane Humke of Waupaca, Barbara Martin of Mexico, and Virginia Craven of Dallas.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Gathering of Remembrance to begin at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 17, 2007, at Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street. Interment will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Luxemburg. Those unable to attend please visit www.seefeldfuneral.com to share condolences online. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Dan's name at St. Francis Children's Center in Milwaukee.
