Daniel A. Puetz, 70, of Omro, died on Sunday afternoon at home with his family, after a heroic battle with cancer. Dan was born December 30, 1946, at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan, son of the late Elroy and Gladys (Zimmerman) Puetz. He graduated from Kiel High School and soon thereafter enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served his country for three years before coming home and enrolling at St. Norbert College in De Pere, thanks to the GI Bill. He received a degree in Accounting in 1972, and moved to Stevens Point, Wisconsin. It was here, in the Northpoint Apartments, that Dan met the love of his life, Christie Kadow. They married on October 19, 1974, and in 1976 welcomed their son Gordy into this world. After much studying, Dan passed his CPA exam in 1980 and for several years worked as an internal auditor for Sentry Insurance. Over the years Dan and Christie lived and worked in many unique places, always supporting each other's endeavors. Dan retired in 2014 after almost twenty years working with the Stockbridge-Munsee tribe. He loved spending sunny days working outside with Christie, and also enjoyed yearly fishing trips to Canada with his son and other family members. Dan was a voracious reader and always enjoyed a good conversation. Dan is preceded in death by his mother and father, and also his brother Jim. Survivors include his loving wife of 42 years, Christie, of Omro, and his son, Gordy, of La Farge, Wisconsin. He is further survived by two sisters, June Koenig, Cleveland, and Carol (Bruce) Pahl, and sister-in-law, Patte (Jim) Puetz, godson Mark Puetz, and many sisters- and brothers-in-law, and nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, April 28, at St. Mary's Church, 730 Madison Ave., Omro with Fr. William Hower and Sr. Pam Biehl officiating. A luncheon with food and beverage will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to St. Mary's Church, Omro, or the Omro Police and Fire Department. Please pray for all those, especially children, who continue their brave struggle with cancer. Dan's family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the amazing doctors, nurses, and staff at the Michael D. Wachtel Center, especially nurses Megan and Bre. Also our heartfelt thanks to Affinity Hospice and ThedaCare Hospice, for their attentive care.
