Daniel Edward Sauer, age 69, of Omro passed away at his home on December 22, 2003. He was born on June 30, 1935 in the town of Deerfield the son of Edward and Leda Kromrie Sauer. He graduated from Wautoma High School with the Class of 1952. He married Marlene Barthels on December 10, 1955 in Wautoma. He worked for Coles Ice Cream and later owned and operated his own business, Dan's Ice Cream in Omro for several years. He drove truck for Binder Beverage and then retired from maintenance at RCDD.
Dan is survived by his wife, Marlene; three children, Kim (Bill) Bunke of Madison, Richard Sauer of Sheboygan and Dr. Lori Sauer of Albany, Ohio, three grandchildren, Maxim Barthels Bunke, Evan Alex Bunke, and Kattarina Rose Bunke, two sisters; Margaret Haufe of Wild Rose and Linda Sagmeister of Oshkosh, one aunt; Frieda Tygum of Madison, a brother-in-law; Duaine (Lorraine) Barthels of Sheboygan Falls, and several nieces, nephews and special friends. Dan is preceded in death by his parents, one brother Marvin and two sisters, Elizabeth Niemuth and Mabel Sauer.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Omro. His hobbies included restoring antique tractors and he was a member of the Omro Antique Tractor Club. He also enjoyed reading westerns and doing crossword puzzles.
Visitation will be on Friday, December 26, 2003 at Grace Lutheran Church, 720 Jackson Ave, Omro from 12 Noon until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. John Brogaard officiating. Burial will follow at Lake View Memorial Park in Oshkosh. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
