Dr. David K. Van Keuren, age 53, of Washington, D.C., was tragically killed on his way to work Friday morning, March 26, 2004 by a hit and run driver. David was the son of James and Ruby Van Keuren of Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
David was born on October 28, 1950 in Park Falls, Wisconsin. He graduated class of 1968 and attended University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a BS Degree, cum laude, in 1972. He graduated from University of Wisconsin-Madison with his Masters Degree in English. David attended the University of Penn where he received his PhD in the History of Science. He was currently working for the Naval Research Lab in Washington.
David was an avid cyclist and participated in two bike rides to benefit the AIDS Foundation. He had traveled world wide both for work and pleasure. David had made numerous trips to Russia including a five-week scientific cruise in the Artic Circle.
David is survived by his parents: James and Ruby Van Keuren of Oshkosh; one brother: Michael (Char) Van Keuren of Waunakee; one sister: Marina (Roger) Nelessen of Winchester; one niece: Erin (Phil) O'Rourke; one nephew: Ryan Van Keuren; and one great-niece: Madeline O'Rourke.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, April 1, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2450 W. 9th Ave., with Reverend Thomas Bye officiating. A memorial in David's memory is being established by his family.
