Obituary

Our beloved Dad, 87 years young, left us yesterday morning, March 14th, 2022, and was welcomed into Heaven happily by his dogs and all of the family he has missed for so long. Dad was Donald Charles Chase, born August 21st, 1934 in Omro Wisconsin. His parents were Charles and Rowena Chase.

Dad attended school in Omro then entered the Army, he was a Korean War Veteran, serving in Bad Nauheim, West Germany from 1954-1957. There he met his daughter's mother, Sigrid Schaefer, marrying her in Omro in 1958.

Dad went to college in Oshkosh earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1960 and a Masters of Science degree in 1978.

He taught for 30 years in Weyauwega, a science, chemistry, and physics teacher. He coached cross country, being named as a charter member to the Weyauwega-Fremont Track Hall of Fame in 2004 because of all his winning seasons and each year the Don Chase Relays were held in his honor. He also coached wrestling, introducing it to the school. He was also in charge of Title IX for the school district. After stopping coaching, he became the Athletic Director and Assistant Principal. He loved his students so much and enjoyed going to work every day.

Dad then married his high school sweetheart, Jane, in 1989. Dad retired the next year and he and Jane took road trips with their sweet Silky Terrier Feisty. He was a familiar sight in Omro walking his dogs Feisty, Brett, and later Aaron, logging thousands of miles. He loved his long walks out in the country.

Dad is survived by his wife Jane, by his daughters Becky Chase, Appleton, and Cathy Hess, Wausau. He is also survived by his stepdaughter Jeanine(Dante)Renzoni, Medford and their daughter Kendra, and stepson Guy Getchius, Northbrook, IL and his children Gavin and Gabrielle. He is further survived by grandsons Travis Hess and Ben Hess and their families, and grand-daughter Tasha Bair and her family. Besides being preceded in death by his parents, he was also preceded in death by his stepson Jeff Getchius.

At Dad's request, there will be no ceremony and he will be cremated. Upon Jane's passing, their ashes will be co-mingled, along with their dogs ashes, and then "dispensed to the four winds" over their parent's graves. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Wounded Warriors Project or any animal organization.

Oh Dad...I will love you and miss you forever. How lucky Becky and I were to be loved so much, and you made sure we always knew that. Thank you for a million memories which I will keep in my heart forever. I like to think you're all better now, running again and taking your walks. Thank you for trying so hard to stay. Not a day will pass that I don't smile thinking of something you said or did. Thank you for being the best email buddy ever, and I already miss your messages. I'm so glad I saved many. I'll love you forever Dad, and thank you for loving me and being the best Dad ever. What I wouldn't give for one more of your hugs. I love you.- Cathy

Dad-I guess I was meant to find you yesterday and you wouldn't have had it any other way, you looked so peaceful. I gave you so many hugs and kisses until it was time for you to leave your house, but Dad, you got your wish, you worked so hard to stay in your home and you did it. Thank you so much for being the best and funniest Dad anyone could ask for, Cathy and I have your sense of humor and how wonderful is that! And you and I had the discussion a couple weeks ago, as to who would greet you first in Heaven, and I am hoping it was your beloved Major, he was waiting for you for the longest time. Thank you for your love of astronomy and teaching us so much about the stars, you know every night that I am able to see Orion you will always be there. I am going to miss your emails all day long, your "I love you's". You were so loved and we knew you knew that, you had hugs for us every time we were together. I miss you so much but I know you are so happy up there, running with all your dogs and visiting with everyone. I know I will see you again and I can't wait for that hug. I love you so much.- Becky.
