Donald A. "Don" Hawley, age 80, of Oshkosh, passed away on Tuesday morning, June 21, 2005 at Oshkosh Medical & Rehabilitation Center. He was born on March 16, 1925 in Oshkosh to Clifford and Carrie (Johnson) Hawley. Don married Betty Jane Kern on June 21, 1960 in Oshkosh and she preceded him in death on July 10, 1999.
Don was employed by Stillman Hardware Store; Universal Foundry; and later by Morgan Door Company until his retirement. Don served his country proudly during WWII in the U.S. Navy from June 1942 to March 1946 with a rank of SC2c. He was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church, Oshkosh VFW, and the American Legion Last Man's Club. Don was an avid sports fan, especially football, basketball, and baseball.
Survivors include two daughters: Linda (Mark) Bidwell Sr. of Oshkosh; Victoria (John) Fleck of Waldo, Wisconsin; one son: Kenneth (Melissa) Hawley of Oshkosh; five grandsons: Mark Jr. and Timothy Bidwell, Cory and Adam Hawley, Ethan Fleck; one granddaughter: Ashlyn Fleck; eight sisters: Jean Behnke of Oshkosh; Carol Frank of Oshkosh; Joyce Rasey of Oshkosh; Janet (Robert) Himmler of Oshkosh; Kathryn (Raymond) Tice of Oshkosh; Ruth (Edwin) Anderson of Oshkosh; Alice Wachtveitl of Rockford, Illinois; Doris (Russell) Bounds of Belvidere, Illinois; three brothers: Wayne (Betty) Hawley of Oshkosh; Jerry Hawley of Oshkosh; David Hawley of Appleton; and one sister-in-law: Eloise Hawley of Stevens Point. Preceding Don in death are his wife; parents; infant son: Mark Alan Hawley; two brothers: Richard and Kenneth Hawley.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 24, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street, with Reverend Rick Hopkins officiating. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park following services with military honors by the United Veterans Honor Guard. A time of visitation and support will be held at the funeral chapel on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
A special thank you by Don's family to the staff of hall #2 at Oshkosh Medical & Rehabilitation Center for the loving support and care given to Don and his family during his stay. Thank you also to Dr. Duffy and staff for the on going care and support given to Don.
