Donald J. Helstrom, age 88, of Oshkosh, died Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at his home. He was born on November 8, 1918 in Wausau to Daniel and Ella (Rosenau) Helstrom. Don married Harriet J. Conroy on April 25, 1953 in Oshkosh and she preceded him in death on December 23, 1992.


Don was employed by Wisconsin Axle as an accountant, by American Can in the computation division, and was later employed as an auditor for Oshkosh National Bank. He enjoyed collecting coins, traveling, and photography. Don was a member of Martin Luther Evangelical Lutheran Church and was Past Resident Treasurer of Carmel Resident Council.


Survivors include a son, Steve (Lucy) Taylor of Oshkosh; two granddaughters, Shae Taylor of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Deidre (David) Basurto of Lake Jackson, Texas; two great-granddaughters, Darla Harriet and Destiny Basurto; a brother, Clifford Helstrom of Wautoma; nieces and nephew, Karen (Roy) Hinn, Cindy, and Paul Helstrom. Preceding Don in death are his wife, parents, and four brothers: Arnold, Ray, Victor, and Gordon Helstrom.


Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 24, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in Martin Luther Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1526 Algoma Blvd., with Reverend Jeffrey Berg officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. A time of visitation and sharing of memories will take place on Monday from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church.
