Donald E. Hinz, age 74 died Palm Sunday morning, April 5, 2009 surrounded by his family. He was born in the town of Eldorado to August and Goldie (Henke) Hinz on September 10, 1934. He was baptized on October 7, 1934 by Pastor Cronrath. He was later confirmed at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in the town of Nekimi on March 21, 1948 by Pastor Edward Keller. On June 4, 1954 he married Betty Jane Bearwald at Martin Luther Church in Oshkosh. They were blessed with five children: three sons and two daughters.
Donald was a dairy farmer all of his life. Donald loved being outdoors, hunting deer and turkey, sturgeon spearing, and feeding and watching the birds. He could be found caring for the landscaping of his home and teasing his grandchildren. After retirement Donald enjoyed driving around the state of Wisconsin and visiting various casinos. He drove for Green Giant Canning for a number of years. A lifetime member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nekimi he served on church council as a trustee for a period of time.
Surviving Donald is his wife of 54 years, Betty; children: Keith (Bev) Hinz of Pickett, Lynn (Rhoda) Hinz of Van Dyne, Gary (Wendy) Hinz of North Fond du Lac, Sandra (Dave) Sell of Oshkosh, and Susan (Greg) Peters of Omro; grandchildren: Matthew (Angela), Michael and Brian Hinz, Sara (Kyle) Schwoch, Andrew, Ryan and Adam Hinz, Jason (Jessica) Colton, Christopher (Laurel) and Jeffery Hinz, Jennifer (Brad) Barber, Melissa and Amanda Hardel, Steven, Nicole, and Michael Peters; great-grandchildren: Bryce and Landon Barber, Grayson and Josie Hinz, and Owen Schwoch. He is further survived by siblings: Darrell (Virginia "Connie") Hinz, Larry (Virginia) Hinz, and Karen (Duane) Schroeder; brothers-in-law: Marlo "Harp" Roberts, Robert (Mary Ann) Bearwald, and David (Eunice) Bearwald; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by sister, Joyce Roberts; parents-in-law, Clarence and Clara Bearwald; and brother-in-law, Orland Bearwald.
A funeral service for Donald will be held at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church-Nekimi, 491 Old Oregon Road. A time for sharing support and memories will be held at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery.
