Obituary

Donald "Donnie" Hopp of Berlin, passed away April 29, 2010, at home surrounded by his family. Donnie was born December 4, 1941, at Berlin Hospital, to Andrew E. Hopp & Evelyn (Nourse) Hopp. Donnie was the second oldest of 10 children, and played an active roll in helping to raise his younger brothers and sisters. Donnie spent his childhood hunting and fishing the area with his brothers and sisters and had fond memories of "Big Island". This love of the outdoors continued throughout Donnie's life, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. If it had four legs or flew, Donnie shot it; if it had fins, Donnie caught it. An excellent marksman, Donnie holds a number of trophy bucks to his name.

Donnie married Judy Cook on August 4th 1964, and together they raised 3 children in Neshkoro. Donnie's children have many fond memories of their childhood, and were able to reminisce with "Dad" throughout his three year battle with cancer. They are thankful to God for the time He gave them with their Dad.

Donnie was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1964, where he became a member of Company B, 2nd Battalion, 18th Infantry Division, of the "Big Red #1", serving in Vietnam. In his later years, Donnie was finally able to be very proud of his military service. In a cruel twist of fate, not only did his tour in Vietnam affect Donnie's young life, his diagnosis of lung cancer resulting from Agent Orange Exposure robbed him of his golden years as well.

Donnie was always a hard working man, and was employed at the Berlin Foundry for over 37 years, retiring in 2004. During that time he was an active member of the labor union, serving as a member of the bargaining committee and also as Vice President.

Donnie was loved and will be missed by his children, Angela (Mark) Soda of Oshkosh, Tim Hopp of Neshkoro, Bradley (Heather) Hopp of Green Bay; grandchildren, Cassie Soda, Dustin Soda, Timmy Hopp, Jr., James Hopp, Cheyenne Hopp; those he considered grandchildren, Johnny, Justin, Vanessa and Dennis; his mother, Evelyn Hopp of Neshkoro; sisters and brothers, Elaine (Bernie) Thompson, Delores (Lyndon) Luker, Patsy (the late "Butch") Cook, Tommy (Shirley) Hopp, Sherry (Gary) Krueger, Karen (Dean) Petraszak, Jimmy (Teresa) Hopp; sister in law, Nina Hopp; special friend, Dianne Bogutske, and her son, Brian (Denise); the mother of his children and dear friend, Judy Hopp; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew; son, Donald, Jr., brothers, Eugene (Beverly) and Andy.

In respect to Donnie's wishes, friends and family will gather at the funeral home on Friday, May 7, 2010 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:15 p.m., with the Memorial Service at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.

Donnie's children would like to thank Dr. Karen Gremminger and staff, especially Kelly & Wendy; St. Agnes Hospice Hope, most notably Shelly; Diane Bogutske, Judy Hopp and Sherry Soda for the care, concern and support given to our Dad and us.
