He served as a Postmaster in the United States Army in 1963-1965 and was stationed in Korea, Texas, and South Carolina. Don will be fondly remembered for his storytelling, sense of humor and jokes, his bright red Cadillac and Model A, his fondness for Leon's Custard and Trail's End hotdogs, and a genuine love for life. He loved people and his favorite saying was 'the more the merrier'. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing and hunting, reading and learning, enjoyed waterskiing and playing sports, excelled at working with his hands, and had many years of enjoyment with his wife, daughters, and grandsons on his 40-acre homestead in Omro. He was employed for 50+ years for Ray Kienast and Sons Construction (co-owner in later years) and was a part-time sales rep along with his wife Barbara for McKay Nursery. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara(Duchow)Kienast; his daughters, Amy (Rick Taig) Kienast, Jennifer (John III) Yost; grandsons, Alex (fiancé Jazmin) and Ian Yost. He is also survived by brothers, Dallas Sr. (Patricia) and Douglas (Vickie), sister JoAnn (Ronald) Borchardt, sister-in-laws, Jacqueline (Gordon) Allison and Patricia Kramer, and childhood friends, Donald Meerdink, Gerry Klinger, Richard Dorow and TJ Hobbs. He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Vivian (Brehmer) Kienast, father-in-law Lawrence Duchow, in-laws Wilbur and Beatrice (Penn) Kramer, an unborn grandson, childhood friend, Thomas Holland, his aunts and uncles, and two special nephews.A special thank you to Julie Smerling, Geno Langenecker, Donald Remer family, Betty Achterberg, Frank and Mary Sanchez, Dan and Peggy Frank, Dallas Kienast Jr., Stacey Stone, Aurora Health Care, Oshkosh and Heartland Hospice of Wisconsin for their care and support.A gathering of family and friends will take place later this spring.
