Lt. Col. Donald C. Negendank, retired, age 75, of Oshkosh, died Friday evening, July 9, 2004 at Evergreen Retirement Community. He was born on May 16, 1929 in Oshkosh to Emil and Erma (Krause) Negendank. Don married Loraine Spink on August 21, 1953 in Oshkosh, where they celebrated 50 years of married life in 2003.
Don was a retired Lt. Col. in the US Air Force, where he received his wings in 1953 accumulating over 10,000 flying hours during his 21 years of service. As a command pilot during the Korean and Viet Nam Wars, he received the Air Medal and the Commendation Medal. Don was a member of St. Andrew Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he served as an usher, a member of the financial recording team, and the St. Andrew Men's Lunch Club. He was also a member of Parkinson Support Group, and Edgewater Dance Group. He enjoyed playing Bridge and other card games, reading, model trains, golfing and tennis. Don graduated from Oshkosh Hight School in 1947, where he was a member of the tennis team. He was a member of the tennis team at Oshkosh Teacher's College and later at UW-Madison, where he graduated in 1951 with a B.A. degree. He graduated with a M.B.A. degree from George Washington University. While in service he was a member of the Air Force World-Wide Tennis Team, which won the Inter-Service Championship. He was a member of Cook-Fuller American Legion Post #70. As a young man, Don became an Eagle Scout and earned the Order of the Arrow. He was awarded the title of Honorary Mayor of Oshkosh for one day. After serving his country, Don was employed by Oshkosh Truck Corporation as the Western Region Sales Manager before his retirement.
Survivors include his wife: Loraine of Oshkosh; one son: Scott (Sandra) Negendank of Oshkosh; two daughters: Sue (Tom) Taraska of Brookfield, Wisconsin; Patti (John) McCool of Cottage Grove, Minnesota; two granddaughters: Amy and Kelly McCool of Cottage Grove, Minnesota; one brother: Robert (Esther) Negendank of Los Gatos, California; one brother-in-law: Richard (Sherrill) Spink of Port Aranson, Texas; nieces and nephews: Douglas and Carri Tyriver, Jeffrey and Tori Tyriver, Mike and Julie Tyriver, Robert and Ann Negendank, Terry and Paula Negendank, and Mimi Shilova. Preceding Don in death are his parents and one sister-in-law: Eleanor Tyriver.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 13, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Andrew Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1100 East Murdock, with Reverend Karen Jewell officiating. Entombment will be at Lake View Memorial Park with Military Honors given by United Veterans Honor Guard. Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the church. Memorials in Don's memory are requested to St. Andrew Evangelical Church, American Parkinson Disease Association, or Wisconsin Parkinson Association.
