Obituary

Dorothy "Dottie" M. Adams, who had lived in Oshkosh since 1999, passed away at age 105 on March 27, 2008. Miss Dottie was born May 31, 1902, in Morristown, New Jersey, the daughter of Helen and William Dean. Miss Dottie had one brother, John, who preceded her in death in 2001. She married Harold Moore in 1923. She later married Dr. Thurston Adams on May 15, 1943.

Miss Dottie attended the Bradford Academy of Haverhill, Massachusetts, the Julliard School of Music and Columbia University. She taught piano for more than 70 years, to young and old, and gave many piano recitals and concerts throughout her long career as a musician. Her musical ability was one of her greatest gifts and her piano, her most cherished possession. She had memorized 30 major pieces by Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Rachmaninoff and Debussy and played one of them every day of her life, to the great pleasure of all who knew her. Dottie was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and an active member of each community she lived.

In addition to her brother, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Dr. Thurston Adams, her first husband, Harold Moore, her son, Dr. George Moore, and her daughter, Peggy Sherry.

She is survived by her son, Dr. W. Sam (Betty) Adams; daughter-in-law, Eleanor Moore; son-in-law, Chris Sherry; grandchildren: Gene (Toni) Moore, Susan Erdman, Thurston (Kim Gordon) Moore, Dr. Kathryn (Dr. Charles Strott) Sandberg, Greta (Ron) Maddox, Robert (Maggie) Sandberg, Allison (Peter) Kloster, Erin (Annie) Quick-Laughlin, and Kelly (Dan) Banasik; and many great-grandchildren and friends.

Miss Dottie caught the eye with her signature bow in her hair, the twinkle in her eye and warm smile. Her interests were wide and varied. Among other accomplishments, she took up horseback riding in her 60's, winning ribbons at the county fair. She loved a good game of tennis one day and bridge the next and was always an avid reader. Her charm and sense of humor were irresistible to her many friends. Dottie was the treasured matriarch of her extended family. Her family enjoy the fruits of her sewing, quilting, and needlework, but not ironing.

A memorial service, and life tribute, for Miss Dottie will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 3, 2008, at St. Raphael's Church, 830 South Westhaven Drive. A time of gathering and sharing memories will be held at the church on Saturday, May 3, 2008 from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service.
