Dorothy Bruins, age 93, of Oshkosh passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at her home. She was born in Milwaukee on July 9, 1916 the daughter of Herbert and Carrie (Franz) Sontag. She married Jim Bruins on June 15, 1940 and he preceded her in death on December 23, 1999.

Dorothy graduated with honors from the Normal School in Milwaukee. She taught kindergarten and first grade in Appleton before coming to Oshkosh to teach similar grades for 35 years. Dorothy was also a field supervisor for Oshkosh State College during her teaching tenure. For 32 years she did volunteer work at Mercy Medical Center where she put in over 4,000 hours. Both she and her husband were avid golfers and belonged to Oshkosh Country Club.

Left to mourn her passing are her children: Jim (Nancy) Bruins Jr. of Black Earth, Gary (Juanita) Bruins of Tucson, Arizona, Lynne (Phillip) Keller of Sisters, Oregon; 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and sister, Sonia Misurca.
