Dorothy Pepple Johnson, age 88 of Oshkosh, died on March 1, 2008. Dorothy was born on January 25, 1920 in Princeton, Indiana, to Glyde (DDS) and Esta Kate (Baltzell) Pepple.
Dorothy graduated from Princeton High School. She then attended Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Indianapolis, Indiana. After receiving her R.N. degree, she attended George Peabody College in Nashville, Tennessee to further her studies in Public Health Nursing. She worked as a Public Health Nurse in New Albany, Indiana. In 1943, Dorothy married Frank C. Johnson, M.D. of St. Louis, Missouri in the First Presbyterian Church in Princeton, Indiana.
After Dr. Johnson's service in Europe during WWII, Frank and Dorothy settled in Doniphan, Missouri, where they owned the Community Hospital. Dorothy served as Director of Nursing at the hospital, assisting her husband as needed. Dorothy was an active member of the Doniphan First Baptist Church, Hobby Club, Fiction Club, and PEO, chapter FN.
Following the death of her husband in 1965, Dorothy moved to St. Louis in 1966 and returned to Public Health Nursing. Dorothy then moved to Oshkosh in 1987 to be near her son, Larry A. Johnson, DDS, and his family. She was a member of First Congregational Church and PEO, chapter BA.
Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Joanne (George) Miner of Surprise, Arizona, and a son, Dr. Larry (Jane) Johnson of Oshkosh. She is further survived by seven grandchildren: Tim Johnson of Boston, Massachusetts, Michael Johnson of Oshkosh, Dave Johnson of New Orleans, Louisiana, Anne Johnson of Oshkosh, Lesley (Jim) McCoy of Tempe, Arizona, Kari (John) Olson of Santa Clarita, California, and Dr. Mark (Kris) Miner of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; and four great-grandchildren: Luke and Kyle McCoy, and Sarah and Steven Miner.
