Duane A. Jones, age 77, of Oshkosh, passed away peaceful in the loving arms of his wife of 55 years, on Monday evening, October 8, 2007. He was born on March 25, 1930 in Oshkosh to Avery and Florence (Williams) Jones. Duane married Elinor Vaughn on September 19, 1953 in Oshkosh.
Duane was a bricklayer for 56 years and was a member of Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Union #9. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry during the Korean War and was in the first group to reach the Yalu River, Korea, in 1950. He was a very patriotic and pro-American individual. Duane was a strong family man whose family was a first priority.
Survivors include his wife, Elinor Jones; children, Jeffrey (Cindy) Jones, Cindy Olson, Owen (Kim) Jones, Wynn Jones, and Andy (Lynn) Jones; grandchildren, Bruce, Jason, Tamara, Brent, Megan, Daniel, Elizabeth, and Cameron; a great-grandchild, Madison; and step-sisters, Jean (Leif) Houkum and Gwen Isaacs. Preceding Duane in death are his parents and three brothers, Kermit, William, and Winston Jones.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street, with Ray Miller and Stanley March officiating. Interment will take place in Zoar Cemetery, where military honors will be given by United Veterans Honor Guard.
