Edna Ella Stone, age 105, of Omro, died peacefully Sunday evening, December 14, 2008 at the Omro Care Center. She was born January 17, 1903, in the Town of Utica, the daughter of Harman and Margaret (Hughes) Dodd. Edna graduated from Omro High School in 1923. After graduation, she worked for the telephone company in Omro. On November 20, 1926, she married George Stone. They lived on the family farm in rural Omro their entire life, where they raised five children. She was active in the Elo Grange and Maple Homemakers and is a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Omro. Edna's memory was great and she enjoyed writing notes and receiving letters, cards, and pictures from family and friends. Edna enjoyed baking rolls and cookies, playing cards, reading, watching sports on T.V. and doing word search puzzles.
Edna is survived and will be missed by her five children, Jean Hollander of Markesan, Rex (Ruth) Stone of Waukau, Russell (Lois) Stone of Omro, Lenora (James, Jr.) Tritt of Omro, Leonard (Marie) Stone of the Town of Omro; eighteen grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George and son in law, Arlyn Hollander.
Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday, December 18, 2008 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and again at the First Presbyterian Church, 955 N. Webster Ave., Omro on Friday, December 19, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Edward Slusser officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Waukau Cemetery. The family would like to thank Omro Care Center for the care given to Edna in her last weeks. A memorial is being established in her name.
