Elaine M. Hotchkiss, age 77, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, died Monday evening, January 29, 2007 of natural causes at Theda Clark Medical Center, in Neenah, Wisconsin. She was born on December 25, 1929 to Henry and Hilda (Luebke) Hanneman. Elaine married Fred Hotchkiss on February 9, 1952.
Elaine was a graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, located in Oshkosh. She held various nursing positions for the State of Wisconsin. When her husband attended Medical School in Madison, his internship and residency in Toledo, Ohio, Elaine maintained work in Industrial Nursing. Upon establishing residence in Toledo, Elaine was active in volunteer work for many wonderful organizations. Among her favorites were Chairman of Social Ministry at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Toledo, Mobile Meals, and Clover House, fundraising for Little Sisters of the Poor "Holiday on Ice", and fundraising for St. Luke's Hospital Auxiliary. In 1976 Elaine was honored by St. Vincent Medical Center as a "Woman of Toledo." In 1987, Elaine and Fred returned to Oshkosh, upon their retirement. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Oshkosh.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Gail and David Scoates of El Paso, Illinois; a granddaughter, Shannon (fiance- Brian Radtke) Higgins of Menasha, Wisconsin; a sister, Shirley Michels of Oshkosh; a sister-in-law, Julaine Hanneman of Oshkosh; a brother-in-law, Herb Reif of Oshkosh; and other relatives and many good friends. Preceding Elaine in death are her husband; a daughter, Karen Russell; a brother, Eugene Hanneman; a brother-in-law, Thomas Michels; a sister-in-law, Patsy Reif; her parents and in-laws, George and Lois Hotchkiss.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 2, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 338 North Eagle Street, with Reverend David F. Pagel officiating. Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery following cremation. A time of visitation and support will be held on Friday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. at Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 300 North Eagle Street after which we will proceed to Immanuel Lutheran Church for the service. Memorials are requested to the American Cancer Society in her daughter Karen Russell's memory.
