Obituary

Elbert R. Fenn, age 85, of Oshkosh, died Monday morning, July 2, 2007 at his home. He was born on November 30, 1921 in Oshkosh to Sizzo and Ella (Madenwald) Fenn. Elbert married Marilyn Baier on May 15, 1943 in Oshkosh and she preceded him in death on June 11, 1986.

Elbert was employed at Leach Company, Jewel Tea Company, ran his own Mobil Oil Service Station in Markesan, and ended his career at Rockwell Standard in Oshkosh. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, American Legion, and Disabled American Veterans. Elbert served with the U.S. Army in India during WWII.

During his early life, he was a pitcher of great accomplishment, playing in the amateur leagues in Oshkosh, Ripon, and Markesan. Although best known for his pitching prowess, Elbert's claim to fame was a home run hit half way up the light pole in deepest center field at Ripon Park. He loved to fish and often spoke of the wonderful times he had with his dad and brother, Bob. Hunting tales were also topics of many a boastful evening.

As he became a senior, his name would often be on top of the horseshoe competition for the Oshkosh Senior Olympics but his favorite place to get away to was the Far Vu Golf Course with his friends. Always a friendly chap, Elbie would talk to anyone at anytime and they would immediately feel like they had made a new best friend. He loved all little children and now he rests peacefully as a child of Heaven.

Survivors include three sons, Richard (Susan) Fenn of Madison, Timothy (Shauna) Fenn of Mansfield, Texas, and Stephen Fenn of Virginia Beach, Virginia; five grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Fenn of Seattle, Washington; two sisters, Edyth Aggen of New Holstein, and Elinor Webster of Rochester, Minnesota.
