Obituary

Eliza M. Urnes (nee, Somers), age 82, of Oshkosh, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2013. She was born in Iona, South Dakota, on December 29, 1930, the daughter of the late Lafayette and Pearl (Long) Somers. On May 8, 1947 she married Wallace Urnes, who preceded her in death in 1992. On May 6, 1994 she married James Markofski, who preceded her in death in 2005. Liz worked as an assistant for Parkview Health Center for 30 years. She enjoyed going to the occasional casino and receiving visits from friends and family. Liz was known to be a spectacular cook and cherished her dogs: Greta, Dutchess, Tori, Cricket, and Spooki.
Liz is survived by her children: Janet (James) Betts of Oshkosh and Perry Urnes of Oshkosh; step-children: Roxane Fitch; Randy, Jeff, Ronnie and Jerry Markofski, and Lori Burns; grandchildren: Scott (Jenny) Brehmer, Brenda (Dave) Knaack, Angela (Dan) Smidl, Anthony (Tonya) Betts, and Heather Mason; great-grandchildren: Alexandra Brehmer, Trisha (Phil) Stanislawski, Brittany Hoover, Aaron Smidl, Briyana and Kayla Mason, and Ezra Knaack; step-grandchildren: Richard and Patrick Pratt, and Kara Betts; great-great-grandson, Ryan Stanislawski; special nieces and nephews: Randy and Penny Besaw, and Joanne and Vernon Eide; and life-long friends: Bertha Cram and Bev Foust. She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents; three brothers; three half-brothers; and four half-sisters.
The funeral service will be at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 2013 at the Seefeld Funeral Home, with Fr. John Becker officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Ellenwood Cemetery, Oshkosh. In lieu of flowers, donations in Liz's name may be made directly to Oshkosh Area Humane Society.
The family extends a special thank you to Affinity Visiting Nurses, especially: Sheila, Barb and Rachel, Liz and Clarissa for their wonderful care. Further, thank you to Dr. Christopher Rocke and his staff, for their care was much appreciated.
