Elizabeth (Betty, Liz) Youngberg was called into eternal life on Wednesday, January 6, 2010. Born in Oshkosh on January 9, 1916 to William and Mayme Mees, Elizabeth was a graduate of Oshkosh High School and the Minneapolis Business Institute. On November 22, 1945, she married Harold D. Youngberg and in 1950 they moved to Arlington Heights, Illinois, where they lived for twenty years. While in Illinois, Elizabeth was employed as the Assistant to the Personnel Director of Pure Oil Company, in Chicago, from 1961 to 1970. After Harold's retirement, they moved back to Oshkosh, where she was employed as Administrative Secretary to the Director of University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Foundation, until retiring in 1984. Needing to keep actively involved in the community after retirement, Elizabeth accepted the position of Secretary at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Oshkosh. In 1987, Elizabeth moved to Evergreen Retirement Community, where she resided until her death.
A member of Unity School of Christianity, based in Lee's Summit, Missouri, Elizabeth was also a student of Metaphysics and other philosophical studies that would help her better understand her purpose in life. She was a past Worthy High Priestess of the White Shrine, a member of Eastern Star, and a member of Oshkosh Area Humane Society. Her deep love of animals, especially cats, was well known to everyone acquainted with Elizabeth, for she was never without one in her home. Gardening, reading, good conversation, and music were other passions in Elizabeth's life.
Left to mourn her passing is a daughter, Eleanor (Robert) Kringel; five grandchildren, Sharon (Al) Kaddatz, Lori Plahmer, Dave (Lynn) Groth, Dean (Nancy) Groth, and Amy (Rick) Doty; 14 great-grandchildren; very special friends, Allen Borgwardt, Robert Archer, Fran & Ken Steinhilber, Jim Justman, Mary Kusche, and Shirley Powers. Preceding Elizabeth in death are her husband; parents; a daughter; a son; and three brothers.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Evergreen Retirement Community, 1130 North Westfield Street, with Bishop James Justman officiating. Expressions of sympathy may be given to Evergreen Care Assurance or Oshkosh Area Humane Society in Elizabeth's memory.
The family wishes to thank the entire nursing and care giving staff at Evergreen for the exceptional care, concern, and love that was shown to Elizabeth during her years of residence on Garden Heights, Manor View, and Creekview South. The humane and dignified care which she received gave her and her family great comfort and solace. Please visit www.seefeldfuneral.com to send online condolences to the family.
