Ella Ruth Schlichting, age 89, of Oshkosh, passed away Thursday, August 27, 2009 at Aurora Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 17, 1919 the daughter of Fred and Rachel (Voss) Lemke in Oshkosh. Ella married Edward Schlichting on April 11, 1936 and he preceded her in death on May 3, 1972.

Ella was a life long member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was the long time secretary of the Women of Zion and also enjoyed her monthly Bible Study group. She enjoyed gardening and flowers but most of all she loved family get-togethers and spending time with her grandchildren.

Left to mourn Ella's passing are her loving children: Shirley (Vernon) Staerkel of Oshkosh, Edward (Barbara) of Oshkosh, Richard (Linda) of Van Dyne, Russell (Christine) of Oshkosh, David (Kathy) of Oshkosh, William (Alexis) of Oshkosh, Peggy (Mark) Potter of Oshkosh; 24 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her sister Ellen in Florida as well as many nieces and nephews. Ella was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Janice; and brothers, Erland and Erwin.

Funeral service for Ella will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 31, 2009 at Zion Lutheran Church, 400 N. Sawyer Street, with Reverend Gerald Nerenhausen officiating. Visitation will take place on Sunday, August 30th from 4-7p.m. at Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street and again on Monday at the church from 10:00a.m. until the time of service.
