Ellamae L. "Dutch" Counts, age 101 of Oshkosh passed away Sunday, April 11, 2010 at Evergreen Retirement Community. Ellamae was born January 2, 1909 the daughter of Thomas and Lilly (Ziarkel) Lloyd in Fessenden, North Dakota. She attended business school at Evanston and after graduation on June 26, 1937 she married the love of her life, William Counts in Springfield, Missouri.
In 1952 Ellamae and William founded Counts Enterprise Inc., a school bus company with a Shell Gas Station and later a Citgo Gas Station with the buses on 7th and Oregon Street. Ellamae was an active member in Wesley Methodist Church, joining on April 22, 1943 and being involved in the Women's Society and the Koinonia Circle. She was also a former member of the Eastern Star and active in Druids. In her spare time Ellamae liked to knit afghans for each of her grandchildren, listening to WGN Cubs games on the radio, she was also an avid Packer fan and especially loved Brett Favre. Ellamae also loved to bake and was known as Grandma Yummy by her great-grandchildren because she always had cookies or a treat for them. Family was the most important thing to Ellamae and she loved going on trips with her family or just being together. Everyone who knew Ellamae will remember her as a kind and loving person who always put others before herself.
Those who will always love and remember Ellamae include: her son, Thomas (Sally) Counts of Oshkosh; her grandchildren: Terri (Rob) West of Chicago, Thomas (Michell) Counts and their children, Megan, Adam, Ally, Will and Zach of Madison, William (Sheila) Counts and their children, Morgan, Alex, Grant and CJ of Oshkosh, Rebecca Counts of Milwaukee, Jane (Jerry) Counts Vienola and their children, Kaelynn, Garrett and Jacob of Oshkosh. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews. Ellamae was preceded in death by her husband, William; parents; siblings, James, Iva, Lillian, Kenneth and Hazel.
Funeral service for Ellamae will take place at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street. A time of visiting and sharing of memories will take place at the funeral chapel on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service. Private interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park.
