Elsie MacWilliams, 89, of Oshkosh, died peacefully on Monday, March 26, 2012 surrounded by her five children at Eden Meadows East. She was born on November 6, 1922 in Newburyport, Massachusetts daughter of Leroy and Dorothy Kneeland. On September 12, 1942 she married Richard "Bud" MacWilliams Sr. in Newburyport and they spent 54 years enjoying life together-biking, beach combing and traveling.
Elsie was a self-taught scholar and influenced lives with her knowledge and spirituality. We realized that in the five years while in Oshkosh, mom (Elsie) read about 1,500 books. She also enjoyed Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, music activities and Dancing with the Stars. However, mom's greatest gift to the world was loving people unconditionally.
She is celebrated and survived by five children, Richard (Sandi) MacWilliams Jr. of Watertown, Janet (Jim) Simdon of Fort Atkinson, Scott (Mindy) MacWilliams of Oregon, Brent (Pamela) MacWilliams of Oshkosh, Paula (David) Seeley of Oshkosh. Elsie was truly blessed with 17 great-grandchildren and 15 grandchildren, up until the day of her death she still played an active role in all of their lives. Elsie was and continues to be the focal point of her family - our moral compass as we move forward as a family.
Memorial service for Elsie will take place at 11:30 A.M. on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at First Congregational Church, 31 West Milwaukee Avenue, Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin with a light lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers please donate to First Congregational Church - The Peanut Crew.
