Emmett was born September 8, 1934, in Polson, Montana and passed away at the age of 78, peacefully in his Redgranite home on August 2, 2013. He is survived by his wife Norma; his two daughters, Sherlene Colwell, Brenda Long (Jack); sister, Annabelle Cope; brothers, Homer Hirst and John Hirst; grandchildren, Timothy Stenberg (Shannon), Daniel Stenberg, Suzanne Stenberg, Donald Colwell, Jr., (Susan), David Colwell (Dawn), Dennis Colwell (Jennifer), Elisha Colwell; and brother-in-law, John Kilgore. He had many nieces, nephews and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Homer Hirst; mother, Anna Louise; brother, Richard Hirst; daughter, Lucinda Tenorio; son-in-law, Donald Colwell, Sr.; granddaughter, Belinda Ross and sister-in-law, Esther Kilgore.
He served in the Navy from September 1953 through November 1956 on the U.S.S. Iowa (BB-61). He lived in Chicago for many years where he worked at the CTA as a bus driver until 1975. He moved to L.A., California where he was a truck driver. Then went on to Everett, Washington where he was a truck driver and care giver for his mother, Anna Louise. After his mother passed away, he moved to Polson, Montana and drove truck for many years until he was unable to care for himself. His daughter, Sherry, brought him back to Redgranite, WI in October of 2011 to stay with her and her family. Here he was able to get to know all of his grandchildren that he had never seen. He loved his camping, fishing and hunting throughout all of his years.
There will be a memorial service at his home on August 10, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. for family and friends.
