Erna L. Simon, age 97, of Oshkosh, died Wednesday afternoon, February 13, 2008 at her home. She was born on July 17, 1910 in Perham, Minnesota to John L. and Gertrude E. (Glimm) Johnson. Erna married Darel E. Simon on September 5, 1936 in Iowa at the Little Brown Church in the Vale. Darel preceded Erna in death on December 4, 1996 after 60 years of marriage.


Erna was a 1927 graduate of Wausau High School. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and had served on various church boards, was Past President of Opti-Mrs, and was a volunteer for Salvation Army. Erna enjoyed reading and quilting for relaxation. She was employed at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Bookstore as a clerical-accounting clerk before her retirement in June of 1989.


Left to mourn her passing is a son, Roger Simon of Oshkosh; a daughter, Vickilee (Daryl) Linke of Stoughton; four grandchildren, Stacy Simon, Angela Simon, Danielle Linke, and Christopher Linke; and a sister-in-law, Vera Johnson of California. Preceding Erna in death is her husband, Darel Simon, and a brother, Harold Johnson


Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 18, 2008 at 12:00 p.m. in First United Methodist Church, 700 W. Linwood Ave., with Reverend Steve Kaehr officiating. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park. A time of visitation and sharing of memories will be held on Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the church.
