Obituary
Esther L. Hielsberg, age 89, of Oshkosh, died Saturday, June 20, 2009 at Evergreen Retirement Community. Born on June 6, 1920 in Oshkosh to John Jacob and Elizabeth (Stieben) Ostwald, Esther married Raymond Hielsberg on October 17, 1953 in Oshkosh. Raymond preceded Esther in death on August 25, 2003.
A seamstress, Esther was employed by Oshkosh B'Gosh and Ted Hoyer Company. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she used her talents with the Altar Society, Choir, and served as Past President of Women of Zion. Volunteer work was important to Esther as she served with Bethel Auxiliary and the Zion food pantry. A well-known cookie and kraut kuchen maker, Esther valued time spent with family and close friends. Nationwide bus tours allowed Esther to see most of the United States.
Mourning Esther's death is a sister, June Stamborski; a sister-in-law, Judy Ostwald; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Preceding Esther in death are her husband; parents; four brothers, Jacob, Sam, Fred, and Emil Ostwald; three sisters, Mary Anderson, Martha Milner, and Elizabeth Rouse; and four brothers-in-law, Anthony Stamborski, James Rouse, Harold Anderson, and Lloyd Milner.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in Zion Lutheran Church, 400 North Sawyer Street, with Reverend Jeffrey Knoll and Reverend Clyde Friedman officiating. Interment will take place at Lake View Memorial Park. A time of visitation and sharing of memories will be held at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday.
