Eunice M. Englund died on July 24, 2004 at Bethel Home in Oshkosh after a short illness. She was surrounded by her loving family and wonderful caregivers. Eunice was born on May 14, 1918 in Kenosha, Wisconsin to George and Lulu (Smith) Schneeberger. On April 12, 1940 she wed Gene Englund who preceded her in death on November 5, 1995 after 55 years of marriage.
Eunice was a community activist and was instrumental in forming Residential Care for the Developmentally disabled (RCDD); a network of residential group homes in Winnebago County. Over the years she was presented with numerous achievement awards, among which were the 1976 Pope John XXIII Award for outstanding service to humanity. She was named to the Wisconsin Hall of Honor for the Association for Retarded Citizens (ARC) and given a lifetime dedication award from the Winnebago County ARC. Eunice was also active in Curative Workshop, YMCA, and the Boys and Girls Club. In 1980 she was presented the Theodora Youmans Award by the Wisconsin Federation of Women's Clubs recognizing her as an Outstanding Citizen of Wisconsin, being the first woman from Oshkosh to receive this award.
Survivors include her children: Gene (Jill) Englund Jr. of St. Petersburg, Florida; Susan (Jim) Monroe of Westerville, Ohio; Jim (Shari) Englund of Oshkosh; Barbara (Bob) Friedrich of Stevens Point; Robbie Englund of Oshkosh; Kate (Chris) Pfaendtner of Larsen; grandchildren: Kelly Englund, Brett (Holly) Englund, Kyle Englund, Jamie (Dreis) VanLanduyt, Jeffrey (Natalie) Monroe, Matt (Michelle) Englund, Justin (Heather) Englund, Tessa Englund, Ryan (Elizabeth) Friedrich, Heidi Friedrich, Peter Friedrich, Claire Pfaendtner, Maxwell Pfaendtner; a sister: Georgia (John) Grno of Kissimmee, Florida; a brother: Dale (Laura) Schneeberger of Coral Gables, Florida; numerous nieces and nephews, and Karen Beerntsen. Eunice was preceded in death by her husband, a great-granddaughter: Drew Englund; and a brother: Don Schneeberger.
Funeral services for this very special lady were held on Monday, July 26, 2004 at Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 300 North Eagle Street, with Reverend Gorden Estensen officiating. Interment was at Lake View Memorial Park in Oshkosh.
