Obituary

Evelyn Lorraine Bowerman, age 97, of Oshkosh, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Evergreen Retirement Community. She was born in Rochester, New York on May 3, 1927. Evelyn was a Head Nurse in Pediatrics at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York where she met her future husband, Dr. Charles Bowerman. He was her beloved husband of 49 years until his passing on January 29, 2001.

Evelyn devoted her life to her family, her faith, a lifelong commitment to serving the community through volunteering (a list too long to include because she requested that the obituary be short) and a passion for learning. She was ahead of her time. A champion of women's rights; gentle and unwavering in her devotion to social justice.

She was a long-time member of Oshkosh First Congregational Church. Over the decades, the staff and church members provided unconditional love, support and healing for her on her faith journey.

She was the beloved mother of four daughters, Sharon (Philip) Buchanan, Nancy (Tom) Neher, Carol (David) Pulkrabek and Beth (Michael) Dover; two sons, Neil (Lisa) Bowerman and Bruce (Janet) Bowerman; the beloved grandmother of Jessica, Natalie, Jennifer, Allison, Matthew, Kelsey, Ryan, Lucas, Sadie, Alex and Emma; and great-grandmother of Merrick, Carter, Edyn, Silas, Cory and Aiden.

She was an inspiration to all who knew her and while we grieve our loss, our memories will be filled with joy, gratitude and a deep appreciation of the compassion, kindness, and love she embodied every day of her life.

Our family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the staff and caregivers at Evergreen Retirement Community for their compassionate and dedicated care of our beloved mother. We are forever grateful for the love and dignity with which you cared for her in her final years.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at First Congregational Church, 137 Algoma Blvd, Oshkosh, WI. Visitation will be at 1:00 PM, followed by a service at 2:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Evelyn's name to Oshkosh First Congregational Church or Planned Parenthood.
