Evelyn J. Ratchman, age 84, of Neenah, died unexpectedly at her home on Monday, July 20, 2009. Born on June 10, 1925 to Elner and Ethel (Perkins) Nelson in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Evelyn graduated high school in Huron, South Dakota and attended college in Madison, South Dakota. During WWII she served as a WAC in Los Alamos. Upon returning home from the war, she met and married the love of her life, Richard Ratchman, on December 18, 1947. Together they celebrated almost 60 years prior to Richard's death on July 18, 2006. They had three beautiful children together, Richard, Linda, and Kirk, who were the center of her universe. Evelyn worked for over 30 years for the State of Wisconsin as a medical transcriptionist. Antique hunting and time spent with her family and friends filled Evelyn's free time. Evelyn was a member of Winneconne Christian Fellowship.
Surviving and mourning Evelyn's death are two sons, Richard (Karen) Ratchman and Kirk (Penny) Ratchman; five grandchildren, Shelley (Pete) Bodoh, Jennifer Hewitt, Eric (Josefa Abdelnour) Ratchman, Joy (Andrew) Grimes, and Bethany Ratchman; five great-grandchildren, Austin and Melody Bodoh, Gabrielle and Samantha Hewitt, and Margot Ratchman; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Evelyn in death are her husband; a daughter, Linda Klemp; parents; brothers and sisters; as well as a great-granddaughter, Myranda Bodoh.
