Florence C. Halle, formerly of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at Christian Community Home of Hudson, Wisconsin. She was born in Leavenworth, Washington on November 18, 1918 and graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1937. She was a runner up to Miss Leavenworth, was a Ski "Sweetheart Princess" and was part of the high school basketball team. Her favorite pastimes were whistling to music on radio broadcasts, horseback riding, and outdoor activities. Florence moved to Seattle, Washington in 1940, and worked at Boeing until 1944. She met Capt. Merlin D. Halle, became a war bride in 1944 and traveled around the country with her husband. They were married for 32 years and had 4 children. After World War II, they moved to Oshkosh, where she worked evenings to support her husband through college. They lived in various Fox River Valley towns in the 1950's where they raised their growing family. They returned to Oshkosh in 1957 where Florence remained until 2011. She enjoyed working as a home healthcare aide with the elderly for many years in Oshkosh. There she was involved in raising her grandchildren, who still love her very dearly.
Florence was a member of New Life Community Church for about 45 years and volunteered in the kitchen and the church daycare. Her interests lay in Bible reading, prayer, music, gardening, music and travel. She loved to eat out in restaurants and socialize with friends and family. She was known to be a kindhearted person with a sweet disposition. Florence was very empathetic, humble and concerned for the salvation of all of her acquaintances.
In her last years she lived in Hudson, WI as a resident of Christian Community Home, closer to family members who helped care for her. She was a favorite of the staff and was involved with balloon volleyball, gardening, and listening to music. On February 14 of 2013 she was chosen to be a Valentine Princess at the nursing home.
Florence is survived by her children, Jan (Jerry) Wagner, Maryville, TN, Hank Halle, Redmond, WA, and Wendy (John) Carlson, Amery, WI; grandchildren, Rachel (Jeremy) Zitzow, Hudson, WI, and Thomas Carlson of Minneapolis, MN; and sister, Melvina Youngquist, Seattle, WA. Florence was preceded in death by her beloved son, Mark Halle; sister, Violet McNeal and brother, Francis Heath, both of Seattle, WA. Her family thanks Angie Matschke for her friendship, kindness and care to Florence.
Funeral services will be held at New Life Community Church, 3250 9th Ave, Oshkosh on Monday, March 30th. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and the service will be 1:00 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. Reception to follow. Interment will be at Lake View Memorial Park in Oshkosh.
