Florence F. MacFarlane, age 96, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at her son's home in Lawrence, Michigan. She was born in Tigerton, Wisconsin on March 15, 1910 to Theodore and Anna (Ruedinger) Metzen. She was married to Harry MacFarlane who preceded her in death on December 5, 2001.
Florence was a member of St. Vincent Catholic Church. She graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1930. She was school nurse for the Oshkosh Health Department and a nurse for the Winnebago State Hospital and found great satisfaction in nursing. She loved her family and was able to be with all of her great-grandchildren recently. An animal lover she found great joy in the company of dogs and cats.
Florence is survived by her son: Thomas (Anne) MacFarlane of Lawrence, Michigan; stepson: Wayne (Berniece) MacFarlane of Oshkosh; stepdaughter: Beatrice (Jack) O'Brien of Moraga California; grandchildren: Kathryn Worrell of Paw Paw, Michigan, and Jeffrey (Ying) MacFarlane of Verona, New Jersey; great-grandchildren: Jonathan and Ethan Worrell, and Quentin and Dylan MacFarlane; and sister: Mary Ann (Leonard) Berger of Oshkosh. She was also preceded in death by her sister: Elinor (Robert) Mathe; and brothers: Norbert (Esther) and Alois Metzen.
A memorial service for Florence will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 22, 2006 at St. Vincent Catholic Church. Family and friends are invited to attend a time of remembrance and support at the church on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Inurnment will take place in Riverside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Florence's name to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
