Frances Langkau Spanbauer, age 96, of Oshkosh, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2004 at Pleasant Acres Nursing Home. She was born on April 3, 1907 in Oshkosh to Otto and Barbara (Sendele) Langkau. Her marriage to George Spanbauer was held at St. Vincent Church on May 14, 1930. George died on February 28, 1982.
Her two sons survive, James K. (Mary May) Spanbauer of Oshkosh and Thomas R. (Susan) Spanbauer of Eagle River; along with her sister, Margaret Osmus of Miramar, Florida, and sister-in-law, Dorothy Langkau of Menominee Falls. She has 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Her brothers, Norbert and Roman Langkau preceded her in death.
Frances was a member of St. Vincent Church. She had lived at Marion Manor for 13 years before moving to Pleasant Acres Nursing Home in October of 2002. She loved to play Bingo. In addition, Frances was well known for her ability to remember birthdays and anniversaries of many friends and acquaintances as well as her extended family. She maintained long-term pen-pal relationships, some of them lasting her entire life.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 13th, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1225 Oregon Street, with the Reverend William Van De Kreeke officiating. Family and friends may call at the Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street, on Monday from 5-7:30 PM and at the church on Tuesday beginning at 9:00. Interment will follow the Mass at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Memorials to St. Vincent Church are appreciated.
