Obituary

Frank Johannes, of Oshkosh, passed away after a courageous battle with emphysema, at his home with his family at his side, on Tuesday morning, April 20, 2010. Born on June 6, 1925, in Deerfield, Wisconsin, to Thomas and Alvina (Bliske) Johannes, Frank married Jean Raatz on November 14, 1953 at Wautoma, Wisconsin. Together, they shared the trials and joys of life for 56 years.

Frank entered the military and served proudly being stationed in the Asiatic South Pacific Theater during World War II in the 6th division, 80th Artillery Battalion as a Tech Sergeant gunner, with a 155mm howitzer detail. Frank was a loyal and dedicated worker of 32 years for the A.O. Smith Company in Milwaukee; he also worked a part time job of 17 years for Badger Auto.

After retiring, he resided permanently in a beautiful home on Mid Lake in Woodruff, Wisconsin. He enjoyed fishing and boating and was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Brewers. He also took great pride in maintaining their beautiful home where many fond memories were made. Later in life he moved to Oshkosh Wisconsin, where he was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Left to mourn Frank's passing is his beloved wife of 56 years, Jean Johannes of Oshkosh; two loving children, Robert (Marguerite) Johannes of Oshkosh and Deborah (James) Braatz of Milwaukee; four adoring grandchildren, Daniel Haefemeyer, Julie Johannes, Nicholas Johannes, and Sara Braatz; two sisters and a brother, Marian Christensen of Waupaca, Harley Johannes of Wild Rose, and Anna Furst of Peshtigo; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Frank in death are his parents and three brothers, Sylvester, Melvin, and Donald Johannes.

Funeral services will be held for Frank this Saturday, April 24, 2010 at 12 Noon in Immanuel Lutheran Church, 338 North Eagle Street, with Reverend David Pagel officiating. Interment will be at Union Cemetery near Wautoma with military honors given. A time of visitation and sharing of memories will be held at the church on Saturday from 10:00 to 12 Noon. Frank's family wishes to thank the nurses of Heartland Hospice for the gentle and compassionate care given these final days to their husband and father.
