Fred Edward Szypulski age 81, died at Park View Health Center in Oshkosh, on Friday, September 16, 2005. He was born to Martin C. and Caroline (Freidrich) Szypulski, on June 1, 1924. On December 22, 1944 he married Josephine A. Duffy who preceded him in death in August of 2003.
During WWII, Fred did not wait to be drafted, at 17 years of age he enlisted in the USMC after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. His Marine unit was HQ Co., 1st Battalion, 29th Marines attached to the 2nd Division. After WWII he reenlisted in the Marines serving in the 9th Marine Reserve district and was called to active duty in August of 1950 during the Korean Conflict. He was proud of his service to his country and was a member of the VFW participating in many different Veteran's service organizations. Fred retired from General Motors after working as a supervisor for 25 years. He was a handyman who loved woodworking; among other items he enjoyed making Brass Cannons and small stagecoaches.
Fred's family members are children: John "Skip" (Sandra), the late Michael (Arlene), Nancy (Gary) Frye, Jeff (Debbie), and Lori (William) Hammett; grandchildren: Paul (Hope), David, Vicki (Dan), Shelli, Rachel (Wally), Bridget, and Seth; great-grandchildren: Jay, Grant, Dalton, Carson, Zane, and Jayden. He is further survived by brother, Walter (Grace) Szypulski and sister, Martha Katzer. His wife: Josephine; an infant son; sister: Margaret Reich; and brother: Martin Szypulski preceded him in death.
Fred will be interred with full Military Honors at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, October 4, 2005, at Southern Wisconsin Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Fred's name to Park View Health Center, 725 Butler Ave, Winnebago, WI 54985.
