Gary Lee Zarling of Oshkosh, died unexpectedly at his residence on Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at the age of 38. He was born in Oshkosh, to Marlene (Hedtke) Reisler and James Zarling on November 13, 1967.
Gary attended Oshkosh North High School, and then relocated to California, where he began to write poetry and learned to play the guitar, the love of his life. At 21, he returned to Oshkosh, and was employed at Lakeside Plastics, Grow Plant, and Larry's Sign Connection. For some time Gary worked as a nighttime security guard at Buckstaff's. On July 17, 1997 Gary was involved in a car accident, which left him semi-paralyzed, and in a wheelchair. However, Gary enjoyed life to it's fullest displaying his wonderful sense of humor. Gary lived to socialize and his favorite question was "What's your sign?" He was very philosophical, loved astrology, history, and nature. His favorite animal was the wolf. Gary also enjoyed collecting rocks and minerals, and spending time with his family. He was currently employed at Lakeside Packaging, in Oshkosh.
He is survived by mother: Marlene (Al) Reisler of Oshkosh; father: James (Marianne) Zarling of Omro; brothers: Michael (Chris) Schraa of Oshkosh, Larry (Mae) Zarling of Colorado, and Mike Zarling of California. He is further survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; including many compassionate caregivers. He is also survived by grandmother: Bonita Reisler of Omro; Bill Ziebell of Oshkosh whom Gary adopted as the grandfather he never knew; dear friend Dale Prey of Oshkosh; Gary is preceded in death by grandparents: Norman and Hazel Hedtke, Paul & Essie Zarling; and one brother: Kenneth Zarling.
Funeral services for Gary will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street, with Reverend Gary Cleveland officiating. Family and friends are invited to attend a time a visitation and support at the funeral chapel on Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. until the time of the service. Gary's family has established a memorial fund in his name. Inurnment will be at Lake View Memorial Park.
