Obituary

Gene E. Morey, age 99, of Oshkosh, died Sunday evening, February 9, 2014, at his home. Born on November 16, 1914, in Toulon, Illinois, the son of Edwin and Ada Morey, Gene married Dorothy Rule on June 26, 1937, in Kewanee, Illinois, and she preceded him death on December 20, 2002.
During the 1930's Gene served with the Civilian Conservation Corp. He was a co-owner/operator of Boeder & Stephan Inc. and later was a sales representative for Laydwell Flooring. Gene was an active member of First United Methodist Church. Bowling and golfing were favorite activities for Gene and he was a member of the Thursday Night Golf League at Lakeshore Golf Course.
Survivors include two daughters, Martha (Gene) Swierczewski of Hoffman Estates, Illinois, and Carol (Mike) Schroeder of Oshkosh; four grandchildren, Michael (Rebecca) Schroeder, Jeanne (Marty) Callen, Tom (Jill) Swierczewski, and Steve (Melissa) Swierczewski; nine great-grandchildren, Adam (Maria), Andy, Austin, Stefani, Morgan, Sydney, Evan, Devin, and Julia; one great-great-granddaughter, Zuri; and nieces and nephews. Preceding Gene in death is his wife, his parents, and four siblings, Erma, Neva, Seward, and Ray.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. in First United Methodist Church, 700 W. Linwood Ave., with Reverend John Hobbins officiating. Entombment will take place at Lake View Memorial Park. A time of visiting and sharing of memories will be held on Wednesday from 12 Noon until service time at the church.
